A brief but impassioned argument for the elimination of passwords, founded on what to me seems like an eminently defensible premise: passwords simply don't work any more. The old mantra that this is just a matter of user education is becoming woefully threadbare [not least because user education is not a trivial matter in the first place]. One possible alternative is challenge/response mechanisms, like smart cards, another is biometrics.
We have gotten to the point where we can use these more advanced methodologies with relative ease, so we really should get on with it.
