Operations

Individual capable of using the ops console on the bridge. 'Ensign' would be an equivalent rank on a military vessel.

Maintenance

Individual who knows ships systems well enough to make field repairs. May also be capable of building a chicken-wire and gum version of standard HR/I devices, with the help of a researcher.

Research

This person has extensive training or knowledge in or of principles of scientific research. They and senior security officers are the only individuals permitted in to the HR/I laboratories.
