there is always going to be those people who think their opinion is the
ONLY opinion. I came to this site to learn about skunks, not to argue.

I was only giving my opinion as others on this chat have. I don't think
a personal attack on my Christianity was called for. I personally am a
serious animal lover, my pets run my house. I have a wasp in a plastic
container that I found in my pets water dish, I did not want him to
freeze to death if I put him back outside so I researched wasps ( which
by the way I am allergic to and terrified of). I am taking care of him
until the weather breaks and he can fly free again. THIS is the type of
person I am. Please do not judge me if you do not know me and please do
not assume that you know what I am thinking and what my beliefs are.

It is just amazing to me to see the attitude about human supremacy still
exists and is willing to express itself so baldfaced. I wonder if tapeworms
and mosquitos think the same thing about humans, that G-d put us on earth to
serve their needs? And anyway, speaker, your paragraph shows flawed logic.
If animals really had been put on earth only to be food and clothing for us,
then their lives don't matter, period, so what difference would it make how
many little ones it took to make your fur coat? You start out with an axiom
(however much I disagree with it!) and conclude with rank sentimentality.

More defensible is a recognition, however grudging, that "life feeds on
life": we all fashioned according to a design (and it doesn't much matter if
you think the designer was a loving Creator or random chance!) and struggle
to survive as best we can, all of us, humans, skunks, tapeworms, all of us,
taking our chances.

What really concerns me, though, is the underlying belief system that people
like the writer below frequently espouse. Many Christians who take their
eschatology seriously have reached the conclusion that, since the L-rd will
be coming like a thief soon, it doesn't much matter in the meantime what we
do with this planet He gave us, since its renewal is pending. Remember James
Watt, Reagan's Secretary of the Interior? He said it didn't matter what we
did to species or the earth, since Jesus was coming back soon anyway and
would be renewing everthing anyway. What you believe DOES matter, since it
influences what you do and what you tolerate others doing.

Peace.

Turtle Bear
