From kborn at neurosaudio.com Wed Oct 26 21:58:29 2005 From: kborn at neurosaudio.com (Kathryn Born) Date: Wed, 26 Oct 2005 23:58:29 -0500 Subject: [Neuros-gamma-group] Neuros Technology Newsletter - October 2005 Message-ID: <5EC7EB573FF6D044AF060EE3D1B3525F183163@nasrvdc01.neurosaudio.com> Neuros Newsletter - October 2005 Welcome the massive number of new members! Neuros 442 Launched! We have successfully launched the Neuros 442. It's been a big hit, selling out on Woot in 15 hours. We welcome you to check it out. http://neurostechnology.com/store/prod_442.asp We've talked about this product in previous newsletters, so I won't repeat myself, but I will mention - post iPod- that Neuros sells devices that let you make high-resolution digital copies directly from the broadcasts that you have already paid for. We are one of the few remaining independent consumer electronics manufacturers that is solely interested in providing the best devices and protecting your fair use rights to your media. As Joe said, "The seamless integration argument just doesn't hold water, [using the 442/Recorder bundle] what could be simpler than pulling out a card from a digital VCR before you jump on the train? This is simply about consumer's rights to their own media steadily eroding over time." Open Source 442 Specs and GUI Design Released We're ramping up for the next 442 model, and we've released the documentation on our open source site http://open.neurostechnology.com . We created a (new) technical discussion group just for discussing the Neuros next-generation hardware, based on the TI DM320 chipset (which includes includes the 442v2, the Recorder III and the Neuros III). It's 82 members strong at the time of this writing. http://groups.google.com/group/Neuros-DM320Hardware Neuros II Closeout They're back! The last batch, the biggest capacity, the lowest price. Get an 80GB Neuros Digital Audio Computer before they sell out. http://neurostechnology.com/ New Firmware for MPEG-4 Recorder I: Timed Recording http://www.theneuros.com/index.php/Enhancements:The_MPEG-4_Recorder If you were an early purchaser of the Recorder (mostly Woot.com customers) this will give you the ability to schedule recordings, if you don't have it already. Please follow the instructions carefully, as firmware upgrades can damage your unit if done incorrectly. If you need this functionality but want some help, just give us a call and we'll take care of you. Bounty for Copywriting: Using the MPEG-4 Recorder with your TiVo We wanted to make a bounty/contest that would involve non-programmers. Usually we do contests and cash prizes for folks who are familiar with AutoGK and can make an automated conversion program that works with the 442, or some such. But not this time! This time we want to work with someone who just wants to write a quick guide to using the MPEG-4 Recorder with the timer functionality (see firmware above) in conjunction with their TiVo. Explain how the TiVo turns on, the Recorder kicks into gear and how they make beautiful recordings together. Write the guide that we use on the site we'll give you $100. Heck, we may even offer you a job. Some Basics For the people who are new, Neuros Technology is based around our customers and the community we have built together. We would like to get everyone involved, from open source developers to customers with enhancement requests. For all wishlist and bug reports, please visit Bugzilla http://bugzilla.neurostechnology.com/. I can testify first-hand that when we meet to discuss what needs to be fixed, changed or added, the discussion begins and ends with Bugzilla. So log your issues and vote for the entries you agree with, and one day you may just find your current Neuros product giving you the functionality you've been dying for. Gratitude So to all of you in the Neuros community, it's an understatement to say that we thank you and couldn't have done it without you. This community has envisioned and shaped these products right along with us, and the line between the company and the community has vanished. The next model of the 442 will be something we've created hand in hand, from the chipset to the functionality, and it's looking to be the best media player ever created. We're all in this together and it's going to be an unbelievable ride. So stay tuned.
