That revenue built 63% to $960 million [still rather small compared to Microsoft figures of $3.9 billion]is testimony enough to the rapid adoption rate of Lunux, but that unit shipments only grew 53% suugests that more powerful versions of the Linux product are being served. This in turn suggests a growing role for Linux servers in high-perfomrance computing.
Inescapably, Microsoft views Linux as a top threat, particularly with the latter's higher growth rate. A rebound in IT spending is clearly on the way as part of these developments.
